Is there any real jailbreak risks? I read somewhere about itunes disabling jailbroke iPod's which I believe was a hoax.

While apple does disable jailbreaks with each update, you just need to wait for a couple of days after the release until people have figured out how to get the jailbreak to work.

Worst comes to worst, you can just restore or stay on the older firmware.

Only if you update without taking the steps to preserve it will it mess stuff up.

    Simple, just dont update.

Yeah, there's been no disabling of iPod Touches - maybe you were hearing about the people who'd hacked their iPhones to run from mobile providers other than AT&T? Not sure...

In terms of any issues -
    1) if you jailbreak, don't install firmware upgrades immediately - let the devs take a look and see if there are any issues
    2) worst case, if there are issues, you can always restore to the orignal iPod Touch firmware and upgrade without the jailbreak.

As we always say, no one has yet to have an iPod Touch that has been irrevocably bricked - they have always been able to restore them...
