My iPod touch 2g MC 8GB is currently jailbroken on OS 4.0

From what I've read there is no way for me the restore to 4.1
    and then rejailbreak.

    Is this correct?

I've looked at the requirements for Shatter, redsnow and snowbreeze.

I looks like Im stuck on 4.0 unless I downgrade 3.1.2 and then upgrade and Jailbreak with snowbreeze but I believe that jailbrak is thethered.

I would really prefer a untherthered jailbreak.

    Any advice?

    Thanks

SHAtter won't work for you. I also have a feeling that redsn0w can provide you with a tethered jailbreak, but i'm not sure.

greenpois0n (as the jailbreak) only works on A4 devices.
Stay on iOS 4 jailbroken with Star (jailbreakme) till comex makes another userland jailbreak for iOS 4.1

I'll stay on 4.0 and wait for further updates.

Can we anticipate a new jailbreak that would work for my situation?

Comex has found a userland vulnerability already. He will probably implement it for 4.2. But, you are pwned4life, just tethered4life. Guide in my sig if you want to be on 4.1, but tethered.

    Thanks
but I really don't want to go with a tethered jailbreak.
I think I'll wait for comex to release a jailbreak for 4.2

BTW Im new to the terminology
What does pwn4life mean exactly. Does that mean when you update in itunes in the future you will keep your jailbreak, or are you simply saying that future OS updates cant prevent you from rejailbreaking with the same method?

@bigray pwnd4life means no matter what apple does to block jailbreaks with an iOS update you will b able to jailbreak the device, although tools and custom ipsw will need to be updated in order to use a custom firmware that has cydia already installed on the iOS, mostly the tools have to work with iTunes updates which try to block out the usage of pwndtools to work, the dev team always finds a away around itune updates to keep the tools working
