This guide is to show to a friend. I know it is

    1. You will need to download the 1st Gen. 3.1.2 Firmware. Yes 1ST not 2nd.

    2. Open iTunes.

    3. Make sure your iPod is connected, it does not need to be in recovery/DFU mode. Just connect it normally.

    4. You should see it appear in iTunes, go to it.

    5. Hold Shift+Restore

    6. Choose the iPod Touch 1st Gen 3.1.2 firmware you downloaded.

    7. Wait for reboot.

    8. Go to blackra1n.com. Click on the Windows icon and wait for download.

    9. Open blackra1n. Click Make it Rain. Wait for reboot. If it is stuck at the connect to iTunes screen, close blackra1n and open it again and click Make it Rain again.

    It is now jailbroken!!!

Why upgrade to 3.1.3 then downgrade to 3.1.2? Why not just go to 3.1.2?

You could just use redsn0w 0.3 to jailbreak 2.x

Should he shift+update or shift+restore? Will he have all his apps still?
