I know it has been spoken about but I'm here to kind of clear up the problems we had before with the idea. I have been playing around with the system profiler on my mac while my iPoT is synced via USB. I am trying to find a way for my mac to recognize my iPoT as a hard drive so I can have an icon appear on my desktop and simply drag and drop apps etc. Before people were just looking for an enable disk image check box but obviously apple wasn't that stupid. So maybe its not the ipod that needs hacking but the macs themselves. I will keep trying but if anyone else would like to join it is certainly a feasible so lets work together and hey you never know we might be checking weather notes and stocks sooner than we execpt!

Not a bad idea, but unfortunately I'm a Windows man myself (Lol, I've tried to deny it, installed Linux, played around on Macs... but just cannot bring myself to leaving behind all that gaming compatability

Parallels is for running Windows inside Mac though? Which would mean I would have to purchase a Mac since afaik OSX only supports Apple Mac hardware?

I've used Virtual PC to run Linux inside Windows, but I am pretty sure OSX won't work through Virtualization software.

Edit: Just found a piece of software called PearPC which emulates the PowerPC architecture that OS X requires and apparently allows you to run OS X inside Windows/Linux.

I will give it a shot later when I get home and post the results. It claims to have USB support, and if it does, I presume this means connectivity between the emulated operating system and the iPoT is possible.

    Touch as hardrive

Apple has disabled the feature and it is not availble as a removable device. Why? i don't know but according to Apple all the transfer you need to make can be done via i tunes. this is also to discourage hacing of system files.

But you plug the iPoT into your computer via USB for that connectivity yes?

Therefore, I was simply suggesting that Windows users would be able to emulate OS X using PearPC, plugin their iPoT and iTunes/Jailbreak(When developed) in OS X would recognize it, since Jailbreak isn't Windows compatible, this is the way we would have to go about it.

I didn't mean trying to access it as a removable device

or you could use Vfusion, they put it out not o long ago, you get the look of OS 10, but you can also run windows apps on it, without the mess and demand of the vertual PC.

Hi i've found this to make the iPodT reconized as a removable device.. on mac
First you have to install Macfuse by google:
    http://code.google.com/p/macfuse/downloads/list
It is not only for the iPhone...

Then you have to install iPhone disk in your application folder.
    http://code.google.com/p/iphonedisk/
To mount the iPodT as a removable device you have to run the application iphonedisk and you will find now a disk named 'M├ędia'

    Inside you will see:
    a file: com.apple.itunes.lock_sync
A folder : DCIM (empty on mine)
A folder: Downloads (with a file: manifest)
And a folder: iTunes_control (with your music library !!!!

    )
Everythings works perfect with my iPodT 16 Gig 1.1.1 and my G5
You can now create new folders on your iPodT and transfert files !!!!
