Jailbreaking and Unlocking the iPhone 3.0.1 firmware is pretty much the exact same as doing the same with 3.0 firmware

As you can see, this is very simple and safe. Follow the directions EXACTLY and if something goes wrong, just simply restore your iPhone and try again

wha? so you patch it by installing 3.0.1 and then restore back to 3.0? Wouldn't that un-patch the sms security hole?

No, you first upgrade to 3.0.1 firmware, and then you point it to the 3.0 firmware and everything should be fine (according to members of the dev-team)

Does this work also on iPod Touch 2G ?

    Offtopic:
What is iPhone 1G? -the first generation iPhone.
What is iPhone 2G? - of course the second generation iPhone (a.k.a. iPhone 3G).
What is iPhone 3G? - the third generation iPhone (a.k.a. iPhone 3GS)
-- Then why people always mark their 1G iPhone as 2G on eBay?!

    Wrong.

iPhone 2G = Original iPhone. 2G is a type of cellular network.
    iPhone 3G = iPhone 3G.
    iPhone 3GS = iPhone 3GS.

So no-one has tested this tutorial with iPod Touch (2nd Generation) ?
Would it be safe to try with iPod touch 2G ?

    A little more offtopic:
That's correct when we talk about cellular networks like 2G (GSM) or 3G (UMTS) / 3G+ (HSDPA).
But what if we are talking about iPhone generations? Generations must always start from first generation.

The iPod touch has no 3.0.1. It's only for the iPhone
