is there any chance at all that jailbreaking could affect the hardware of the iPod touch?
I only ask because I recently jailbroke my 1st gen 16GB iPod touch (running 3.0) and since then, 3 pairs of headphones/earbuds have all had one side short out. And not all cheap stuff either, my Sony earbuds, my AKG headphones both fell victim to this...

Anyways, I know it may be a silly question, but just wanted to ask...

As far as I know, jailbreaking doesn't affect the hardware at all.

well, for the ipod 2g it somewhat burns the code to some chip or something, but nothing that can affect your hardware.

to the OP, perhaps you should unjailbreak it and take it to Apple Store!

this actually happened to me as well..

theres no sound coming out of one earphone of the set of earphones that came with my iphone and a pair of cheap panasonic earphones..

not sure it might be because of this.. but i did install Volume Booster 3.0 from cydia a few days before this happened.. i uninstalled it since the second pair broke and now my new set of apple earphones is working well...

    any idea whats causing it?
