My friend got 3.0 and he wants me to jailbreak his iPod since he has tried and failed to do it on his computer.

If I used my firmware copy on his iPod, would it screw it up in any way? (I've heard there's like a code or signature check that comes on the new firmware to prevent piracy.)

    Thanks

    Uhmmm.
No. Good question though. I'm about to do the same for my cousin.
Don't think iTunes can run threw all that.
Plus countless people have pirated versions of the software. So yeah.

Huh so having my purchased firmware on his iPod won't screw it up if he decides to update to 3.0.1 whenever that may be?

No. You can jailbreak it using the firmware you purchased.
