After jailbreaking your iPod touch 2G firmware 3.0, you are given 2 options, either to "Set up as a new iPod" or "Restore from the back up of <Your iPod's name>"

    Which one do I choose?

If you were having problems before, I would do Setup as a new iPod.
    Otherwise restore from backup.

Restore from backup so you get all your music, apps, etc back.

I can relate to this! After I jailbroke it I restored from backup and nothing worked.. I opened a app and it'd freeze then my ipod wouldn't turn on after I tried rebooting it.

I had to put it in DFU mode and update the firmware to 2.2.1 and start all over. Now everything is working fine for me since I did set up new iPod.

if your not looking to rejailbreak and you had the show battery % thing enabled then if you restore from backup you will still have it even though it not jailbroken
Edit: Sorry just read that you said that all this was after the rejailbreak
