Either the movies are not the right format or they are protected files.

    are u sure?

I haven't installed one in a while, but seems to me that for a video to play, it's gotta be in the .m4v file format. There are many software progs. out there that will convert various file formats to iPod formats (m4v).

    Cheers,

The iPod is limited in both audio bit rate and video bit rate. You need to check the setting on your encoding program. The default settings I use with Handbrake are: 1500 kbps (video); 128 kbps/48 khz sampling (audio). The limits on the ipod are about 2500 kbps (video) and 160 kbps (audio). When selecting your audio bit rate, keep in mind that peak bit rate may be higher than the value selected. If the peak is above 160, for example, you won't be able to sync the mp4 to your iPod.
