Whenever I plug-in my ipod touch for itunes it comes up with an error saying...

"iTunes could not connect to the iPhone ** because an unknown error occurred (0xE8000001)."

so far I've done the following,

Re-installed itunes along with anything apple. Apple device drivers, anything ipod update software as well quicktime.

Also cleaned out my temp folder which had various settings and such, the delete of temp files showed all of my itunes settings set back to factory but even with fresh itunes and cleaned registery it still thinks its an iphone.

No, no iphone has been plugged in. My other ipod is a 80gb classic, works fine

Originally, this issue came up when I first got my ipod touch a few days ago, I was unable to register it with iTunes, so I installed it to my mother's PC, worked fine, and even jailbroke it in under 10mins.. works fine, but I'm unable to just load 'my media' from my itunes library

Try reinstalling iTunes, that seems to work for most people.

Obviously you've already rebooted, reinstalled and changed ports, so there seems to be only two roads left to travel...

Mess with your registry to get rid of all iTunes, iPod and Apple software left-behinds and then reinstall or...

    Do a clean-install from the ground-up.

Just keep in mind that the first option could lead to the second very easily.

    Back-up first!
