I just bought my first ipod and downloaded the itunes software. When I hooked up my ipod touch to register it, itunes thinks it is an iphone. The icon on the left side of the screen is showing an iphone.

    How can I fix this????

    Screenshots?
And all you have to do is just replug it back in.
    Unplug..
    Then replug.
Or you could quit iTunes, and then just open it back up.

Thanks for the suggestions - I tried all that. Also tried reloading itunes, restarting my computer, reconnecting the device - all the "normal" fixes. When I open itunes, on the left pane where the devices are listed, all that comes up is iphone. Apparently, itunes has associated my serial number with an iphone rather than an ipod touch.

And yes - it is definitely an ipod touch, not an iphone. I just bought it yesterday and this happened when I set itunes up to register and sync the ipod touch.

Any further suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

i had that a few times on 1.1.3 for iPod Touch. it disappeared after updating to 1.1.4. i don't know what the cause was, but it was weird. oh, and it didn't have Phone or SMS or Camera app, it was just the picture on iTunes.

    Doesn't matter

    It happens all the time

iPod touch gets mistakenly as iPhone, no big deal

Keep reconnecting and it should be fine

As long as you can sync and install games, not really a huge problem

Thanks so much for everyone's help and advice. For unknown reasons, this problem has resolved itself. I tried everyone's suggestions and itunes still identified it as an iphone. Last time I plugged it in to work on it again, itunes says ipod touch. Hmmmm

Sorry I didn't include screen shots - I don't know how to do that.
