huh, i doubt it, then that means no AppStore
the app store wouldn't close because apple would still be making money off of them.
Also i highly doubt anyone will let the itunes store close.
They won't let it close because think about it. how much music is purchased a year from itunes? how many ipods are there in the world? know think of why they are number one.
Easy? cheap? fast? almost everything? Know i can tell you right here and know a large majority of the people that can't get there music from itunes will just download them illegally, or just not purchase them at all. Know what that means? less money to the music industry in the first place
Apple operates the itunes music store to sell ipods. They operate the store on a thin profit margin which means they make just enough money to keep it open -and help sell more ipods.
The greedy labels want more money and apple does not want to pass that to the consumer as increased prices -nor can they afford to absorb the increase because they can not operate the store at a loss. That would make share holders like me very grumpy.
The key points are Apple pays an estimated 70% of digital music revenue to record companies and that digital songs and albums rose 46% last year to $1.2bn while CD sales fell last year by 20% to $7.4bn (£4bn) and it is estimated Apple will sell 2.4 bn songs this year, giving it an 85% share of the digital music market.
So, the bad news is, yes the store COULD close but the good news is Apple holds a better bargaining chip than the greedy RIAA fat cats. I'm all for the artists getting a bigger percentage -but let the greedy RIAA take the 4.8 cents a track out of their pocket.
This statement sums up their greed:
"Apple may want to sell songs cheaply to sell iPods. We don't make a penny on the sale of an iPod."
No, clown, but you get 70% of the revenue that Apple pulls into the store while growing overall music sales. I almost hope Apple does shut down the store. There you go RIAA -YOU GET NOTHING. (said as Gene Wilder playing Willy Wonka)
it wont happen, this is the 1000th thread on this.
it wont happen.
The royalty rates ended up not increasing, and the iTunes Store is to remain open.
Hurray. Their bluff worked, disaster avoided. Please Register or Log in to view images
for now... because it wasn't the first and most likely won't be the last time someone wants a bigger slice of the pie.

If Apple does end up closing something, it'll probably just be Music Store.
All the other stores inside iTunes will keep themselves alive, especially the App Store which is the most selling in just 3 months compared to the music store.
