    1) repair iTunes and Quicktime and any other files to do with iTunes e.g plugins using add/remove programs and the equivalent for macs. Then try iTunes, if this doesn't work then try the steps below.

    2) uninstall Quicktime, iTunes and anything else you have installed for itunes (e.g plugins)

    3) restart your computer

    4) reinstall iTunes and Quicktime

    5) open up iTunes and it shold wrecognise your iPod

i hope this helps and good luck
i have been told this works but haven't actually tried this because i have never had this problem.

if all else fails your best bet would be to contact apple.

i have the same problem and tried all of those steps.

But I'm thinking that it's not properly being uninstalled as when I open the new itunes it has all of my music in there, if I've uninstalled it then it shouldn't know all that stuff so I'm guessingit's not properly being uninstalled.

Any ideas on how to do that?

Stupid crap. I've uninstalled/reinstalled so many times now but it just does the same thing
