Ignore the "malfunction message". It's a libusb issue.

If you jailbroke your iPod with no problems, you should be able to put it in DFU mode and use a boot tool (Decovery, boot function in RedTool etc) to boot it up.

I was in the same position as you thinking it wouldn't turn on, black screen, confusion.

There's also a tutorial to make a BAT file that disables libusb when you're not using it. This should stop the "malfunction" message from coming up but I have yet to try and confirm it myself.

    If...

Hey all, im new to the forums! however. i too had this problem! and if nothing previously mentioned doesnt work. hold down the home and top button for a while, and each time the malfunction message pops up, let go and do it again. after a while, itunes should recognize a device! dont let go! and then hit restore. it should be up and running properly again. hope this helped for all!
