I have stored about 50 apps on the iPod touch, 3-4 videos and a few albums.
But most of the space is used by "others". 4gb!!
Any idea where this comes from?
    I have no idea

It's a second iTunes_Control folder with your music inside.

But this can't be, there are only 5 music albums on the ipod.
I can't imagine that there are 4 gb of music of that i have no access to? Or what do you mean?

Do you know how to SSH into your ipod? Which firmware are you using?

SSH is secure shell; it's a way to access files on your iPod touch.

But, it requires that your iPod touch be jailbroken and that is not yet possible on the 2G iPod touch.

    of course, unfortunately.

So as far as i can see, this storage problem is not a usual one, isn't it?

I just can't figure out why takes so much space.
If it would be 100-200 mb i wouldn't concern any further but 4 gb... thats more than half of the space of this 8gb device

To fix this, restore your iPod.

Sometimes it's even enough to reboot the iPod...
