i believe these programs only deal with syncing media content, but not applications. so it's not really a full alternative to iTunes?

No, sadly nothing can fully replace iTunes if you need it for syncing.

There is no full alternative to iTunes for syncing, but for music management & playback, MediaMonkey is AWESOME.

Itunes is such a bloated piece of crap, I only open it to sync movies, pictures, or backup my ipt3g. All music management happens with MM. The one caveat is that album art work sometimes get's mixed up...but for me, I wish I could disable coverflow anyhow, I find it very annoying.

i used mediamonkey for awhile but got fed up with it crashing all the damn time, along with various other annoyances so i switched to foobar. it's definitely not easy to use at all but after several spending hours configuring and learning how to use it i'm really happy with it

the darkone skin is real nice
