I'm currently using an older iTouch 2G, 16GB. It's jailbroken on 3.1.2. I'm wondering if there is any way to get to 3.1.3? I heard about shsh but don't know what that is. Sorry if this has been asked before.
On a side note, is there an untethered jailbreak for 4.0 yet?

    It's a 2G device they don't have SHSH blobs. DFU+Restore to 3.1.3.

I have tried that, but I get an error message saying this device is not eligible for the requested build.

I don't think you can restore to firmwares you have never been on.

    I've been on 3.0, 3.1.2, and 3.1.3. I downgraded to 3.1.2 a couple months ago.

Because apple doesn't sign any firmware previous of 4. And 3.1.2 is better anyway. 3.1.3 is a minor update. Like what 4.0.1 is to 4.0 no big deal.

He has a 2G touch. He doesn't need shsh files.

Head for 4.0 and jailbreak with redsn0w (if you have a MB model) - If not, wait for comex's release

So should I just stick to 3.1.2? I'd rather upgrade because I want to use some of the app store apps. But, aren't most of the cydia/rock apps not compatible with 4.0 yet?

I would stick with 3.1.2. I mean... How well would the 4.0 OS operate on a second generation device in the first place? I probably won't upgrade my jailbreaked 3.1.2 2G ipod touch from now. I would rather wait, and get the 4th generation ipod touch, and then try out the new os. I mean... from the new features it doesn't seem like you get any new features that are not available through jailbreaking. I have an MB model 2G,and I could jailbreak 4.0, but doubt it would run well on my 2nd generation device. The 4.0 OS might be fine with an upgraded ipod touch, which I will wait for.
