    STEPS

    1. Hold down the home button

    2. While holding down the home button, plug the cord into your iPod

    3. An iTunes popup will show telling you to restore

    4. Restore to 3.1.2, and you're good to go!

    =)

    Try this:

Plug the iPod into the computer, open iTunes, and hold down the home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen.

    Nothing .
Actuallly the only response i got was after i tried your post was:
I plugged it in while holding the power button and the black screen appeared( black screen with very fine almost non visible white lines)
after that if i hold the power n home buttons for 10 sec or after 10 sec the screen goes blabk( like it was shut off)

Okay, try holding down the home button and the power button for longer than 30 seconds. See if iTunes will recognize it.

OK SO I FIGURED OUT THE CYCLE IT HAS OR GOES THROUGH(THE ONLY WAY TO GET THE BLACK SCREEN WHICH I DESCRIBED BEFORE):
**(tHIS HAPPENS SOMETIMES OTHER TIMES NO RESPONSE AT ALL)
    **WHEN ITS UNPLUGGED:
I HOLD DOWN THE POWER FOR 10 OR 15 SECONDS, BLACK SCREEN APPEARS-
IF I THEN HOLD DOWN THE HOME BUTTON ALONG WITH THE POWER FOR 10 SECONDS BLACK SCREEN DISAPPEARS, THEN I'LL LEAVE IT ALONE AND AFTER 10 OR MORE SECONDS THE SCREEN APPEARS AGAIN BY ITSELF

    **WHEN ITS PLUGGED IN:
SAME THING BUT INITIALLY PRESSING THE POWER BUTTON TO GET A BLACK SCREEN TAKES ABOUT 5-7 SECONDS LONGER, SOMETIMES DOESNT EVEN SHOW UP AND IF I LEAVE IT ALONE AFTER PRESSING THE POWER BUTTON THE BLACK SCREEN COMES.

**WHEN I UNPLUG IT(SOMETIMES)I BARELY SEE VERY FINE LINES ALMOST INVISIBLE THEN THE BLACK SCREEN

IM AM SO BAFFLED WITH THIS BLACK SCREEN

I HOPE THIS POSTING DOESNT READ AS BAFFLED AS I AM.
