ok ive had my 2g jailbroken for about 2 days. my mom was using it last night and she killed the battery. im now stuck and when i plug it into my computer it says that it is not recognised, now i understand totally that going into dfu will allow me to reboot. but the battery is dead i have no idea what to do at all. and im kinda worried that my 2g will be no use anymore. so someone please help, theres got to be some way that i can put it into dfu mode or make it boot. ughhh

the title of your thread is misleading.

whether you see it or not, plugging it into the computer WILL in fact turn it on(to a nonresponsive state most likely), and continue to charge it. wait 20 minutes or so, and proceed to entering dfu mode. from there, restore.

Buy a wall adapter and plug in into the wall. Best I can come up with.
If that doesn't work I don't know what will.
But at least you have a handy wall adapter.

Just plug it into your computer, it should charge it... Or as someone said use a wallcharger, once its booted run:

It is IMPOSSIBLE to brick your iPod unless:
    A) You intend to brick it by modifiing crucial files which cannot be restored
    B) You throw a brick at it

You can brick it. If jailbroken then on every boot it'll stay black and do nothing. Put it in DFU and run a boot tool. Then you should see the apple logo.
