Is this safe and is it replaceable?

    That's happened to me, and eventually it stops working. I ended up replacing it

    If it stops working, you can always buy a new cord and replace it.

    that happened to mine , i took it to apple store and they replaced it (looked brand new)

    I just pit electrical tape on it. Slows done the wear.
