So I had the ewifi app on my iPod until I had to restore and when I went to redownload the app it wasn't on the appstore. One of my buddies told me that he got it from the ________ app. Since it's not available anymore is it considered pirating? & don't ban me just for asking, I want to know before I actually do it.

To get apps from any illegal source, no matter the reason, is pirating.

It's on Cydia. It should be fine. Unless you get it from a illegal source.

Definition of "Piracy" from the free dictionary: "The unauthorized use or reproduction of copyrighted or patented material: software piracy."

It depends on the interpretation of this definition.

    My OPINION:
Though from an illegal source, you are not "unauthorized to use the software." Since you legally purchased it, you legally have the right to redownload the application from various sources. Similar to downloading a game you paid for on the computer. The game isn't available to download anymore. You go to a ******* and download it. You are LEGALLY allowed to do this (My opinion). So in my opinion, I believe you are allowed to redownload applications taken off the AppStore through other means (You legally purchased a license for it). But if you DIDN'T purchase a license, you aren't allowed to download it. You are also entitled to creating a backup (and as many as you wish and in any location you wish) of the software.

You however AREN'T allowed to redistribute the software.

Some people will have the exact opposite opinion of mine, NinetyFour has the strict interpretation.

Again, this is an interpretation of laws and defining them.

I don't care about the legal stuff, I follow a moral compass instead.

If you can't find to buy it legit, and your only option is to use the "Apps and repos that shall not be named", I say go for it.

I agree with tinyman, you purchased a license for the app, so you have the right to use it.
