Explain what you want a laptop for.

    Browsing internet?

    Get a netbook.

    Playing games?

Either get a desktop, or find an extra 500$ somewhere.

    Video/picture editing?

    Look above.

    Social chatting?

    I'd get a netbook.

This laptop sounds like a netbook, if it isn't, just get a netbook anyway, cheaper, and probably more powerful for the same price depending on which one you get. Is this US Dollars?

Alternatively, get an EEE keyboard, or hold out for the microsoft courier or apple tablet (courier looks cooler IMHO

I would say the Macbook Pro especially for that price. The Macbook Pro is more powerful than that laptop you want to buy and cheaper.

Isn't the cheapest mpb like $1300 US, and the cheapest normal macbook still $1000? (Unless you are talking second hand, that is...)

Ah, sorry. Missed that last sentence. It depends on the specs of the MacBook pro, is it a current gen, or is it an older one?

If its a late 08/09 model MBP i would go for it. The one that you posted the specs of is utter crap and i do believe you can get a lot better for that price. Or you could save up for a really good one? But it depends what you need the laptop for, if its just for web surfing and chatting to friends i would go for a cheaper option but if it were for games and such maybe a higher end model. But if its for all round i would go the MBP if it is a late 08/09 model because you could add boot camp and use for your games, it is a great all round machine.
