On my home network, my router occasionally gives me a new IP address for my iPod Touch, even though it's set to "Lease - Forever".

Is there any way of giving my Touch a fixed name, e.g. myipod.home.net?

Something to do with my PC's hosts file maybe?

    Edit the file
    c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts

    Add in lines such as
    192.168.2.3 ipodtouch
    192.168.2.4 ipodtouch
    192.168.2.5 ipodtouch
    192.168.2.6 ipodtouch

Remember to save a backup first.

Now i can set WinSCP to root@ipodtouch without worrying if the IP address is going to change and having to edit my WinSCP .ini file to get all my favourite remote directories into a new session
