A TV Remote has an infared 'beamer' (idk the proper terminology), which the iPod touch needs to have too. I don't know any of the other details, but from what I know, no. (I wish it did though, wii remote might even be possible then!)

Actually, there is some stuff out there, but the programs are really expensive, were talkin about $100-$300 just so you can turn on and off some stuff in your house, but I have seen some people with this stuff on youtube where some guy turned on and off his lights, and tv and other stuff. It's really cool, but I dont have the money

no. No IR. No. Unless you run some sort of computer based entertainment system, in which case, use your touchpad.app. but no. no.

No, unless your TV has Wifi, you cannot turn your iPod Touch into a Remote Control for your Television set.

The Apple TV, iMacs, and Mac Mini's communicate with the Apple Remote through an IR Receiver inside their systems. So yes. It IS an IR thing.

TELEVISION, DVD Players, PS3, XBOX 360, Remote controls do the same thing.

I just hate to point it out, but the psp has infrared, right next to the UMD drive.
