I've been out of the iPod world for a few months and have completely lost whatever has happened. I'm still on v1.1.4 jailbroken, and want to upgrade to 2.x.

I have the update files downloaded, but whenever I attempt to restore my iPod to them, I get an unknown error. Any clue on what to do, or do I HAVE to pay $10 for the update?

-Cracked (we dont talk about that here)

    - Borrow a friends ipod with 2.0, back it up, and then restore yours using the 2.0 backup

Maybe the file you downloaded wasnt a propper firmware file, or maype it was for the wrong ipod?

And btw, this has nothing to with cracking. Whatsoever.

Well, I googled a few things. Turns out the firmware I had was for the wrong iPod. Anyhow, I got one for the iPod Touch 1G and I think this is working. I'm in the process of restoring.

EDIT: It worked! Thanks for the speedy help.
