I am thinking of getting an iPhone 4 but want to see how much data I use on average to see what phone contract to get judging by my toch 2g MB.

    Does such an app exist?

    thank you.

I refuse to buy one until they have a more reasonably priced data plan. $10 per gigabyte is too much. At that rate, it would cost $160 to dump the contents of your 16gb iPhone to a server. 16gb isn't much when it comes to HD video.

Live in the UK where we don't have AT&T.

What do they charge you for data over there?

The 3 networks I am looking at are:
    "Three":
    £30/month
    £99 for the 16GB model
    1GB (pay if exceed)
    500 any minuets
    5000 texts
    5000 "Three to Three" minuets
    24 month contract

    Tmobile (UK):
    £25/month
    £279 16GB model
500mb (but if you exceed you don't pay, just restricted 4PM to 12AM to regular browsing)
    100 minutes
    100 texts
    24 month contract

    Tesco (supermarket equivalent to Walmart):
    £20 a month
    £349 for phone
1GB + Free BT openzone wifi (quite common)
    250 minutes
    Unlimited texts

Android contracts are around the same although on Tmobile you get more Data allowance and the phones are cheaper.

For the record, we call this "rip off Britain" if you think that's expensive compared to your contracts.

The reason why I am looking into a data counter is that if I'd use less than 1GB a month, I would go for the cheaper contracts. But if I use more than 1GB I'd go more for Tmobile since that doesn't charge me.

I find the orange and vodafone networks rubbish/mediocre and tesco is 02.

I use tmobile for my mobile broadband so I am familiar with the network performance. I also have three as my current network on my phone (nokia 6288).

Back on topic, is there a data counter so I can try and see my data usage?

Not that I know of, but I'm not sure how it would help you anyway. The only time you're using data on your iPod touch is when you're connected to wifi. If you use your iPhone in the same locations while connected to the same wifi network it won't be any different than using your iPod. The data plan only counts data that is sent/received on a cellular network. So unless you plan on using only 3G (which is kind of stupid since you clearly have access to a wireless network) finding out how much data you're sending/receiving on wifi won't help you at all.

Never mind anyway, I just bought the iPhone yesterday on Three because I have 28 days to try the phone out anyway so I'll see how much I use.

I just wanted the wifi data counter to get an idea of how much data is used. Living with unlimited internet I am not use to the idea of being careful with my internet usage as much.
