Is the faster performance important?

I'm about to buy my first ipod touch. I'm leaning on buying an 8 GB second generation model for the following reasons:

    - I have absolutely no want for more than 8 GB of storage space.

    - I have absolutely no want for hardcore gaming- Saucelifter is about as hardware-intensive as my tastes in apps get.

    - I'm a penniless college student- stretching my finances for the faster 32 GB model will require a corresponding reduction in my App store budget. I plan on using a wide number and variety of applications, so this is important.

    - I have absolutely no interest in jailbreaking.

    - I don't have any use for the secondary improvements (i.e. voice control) on the higher capacity models.

    - I put gadgets like this under heavy use, so the reduced battery life in the faster versions is a downside.

Should I go ahead and get a second-generation 8 GB model? Is the faster processor more important than the concerns I have listed above?

    Thank you very much.

well, you pretty much answered your own question. you dont have any reason to spend more on the 3g, so get the 8gb and save some cash.

From what I've read (which isn't much), all the models from the 8GB 2G to the 64GB 3G have identical battery life.

I never thought I'd use 8GB either, but my 32GB is now full...

I say if the 8GB looks good and fulfills your need then go for it. The only reason I'd like a faster processor is for Zenonia, it currently starts lagging a lot after 10 mins or so on my 2G.

True, it might be better for your application use too. I thought the 2nd Gen was great though. It sounds like it is just what you need. Does the 3rd Gen 8 GB even get speed upgades?

I only need 8 GB because I prefer my Sansa Clip+ as a PMP- the only items in the Ipod touch's memory will be apps.

8gb model has the same internal specs (cpu/gpu/ram) as it did in the 2nd gen. Only the 32gb and 64gb models got the hardware updates.
