Email server push shouldn't drain your battery as the server is doing the work. I've had no problems on my iPhone 3G on 3.0. However if you are referring to the 'Fetch New Data' function, this will rip your battery to shreds so set at long time gap or retrieve mails manually.

Also note that sometimes there's memory holes in jailbreaks so if you were on jailbroken 3.0 with the server pushing emails and your battery was dying this may have been your issue. In this case I would have advised restoring and rejailbreaking.

Well, I did a petit test today on 3.1. I did a solid 10 minutes of Safari use (on Wifi) and I noticed a 2% drop in battery. So on a full charge, that's about 7-8 hours of Safari use which is something close to what Apple promise. As for other uses I'm not sure.

but my battery was drainig too early. even my ipod touch 2g
charge so fast and also draining too ..

i have updated to 3.1.1 and i have noticed that my battery
life is good now.. its not draining but this is not jailbroken
so i have'nt checked out because redsn0w jailbreak is not
    compatible yet.

Exact same thing on mine as mashom stated. Exact same thing.

On 3.1.1 not j/b yet, it seems like my battery is lasting much longer.
WiFi is on, notif off, fetch off. With WiFi off, I can now watch a movie and not have the battery run out after one 2 hr movie.

All i can say that i dont know whats wrong with the battery life in 3.0 my iphone 2g also
drain fast. i upgraded my itouch 2g due to battery draining reason and i noticed that
itouch is back to normal even my itouch charges slowly and eat battery slowly. Redsn0w is'nt still out yet so that i upgrade my iphone 2g and check out battery life.

gman180 did you restore or upgraded to 3.1.1 i upgraded to 3.1.1 from 3.0 but i am not
much sure about these upgrades restores and moddings so no such great idea or
    suggestion from my side.

You know, my battery on my iPhone 3G was draining rapidly after my jailbreak. I did not have fetch on. So I restored and jailbroke again only to experience the same issues. I read online that Winterboard can cause this. So I removed it from my iPhone and lo and behold no more battery issues. Now I use Bosspaper and I have never had any more issues with my battery. For you guys experiencing battery issues, it's worth a try to uninstall WB.
