I'm so confused after reading that.

Are you trying to jailbreak Firmware 1.1.1 or Firmware 2.2?

Put it into DFU mode and restore it. Otherwise your screwed unless you can think of an excuse to give to Apple on why you can get a new one.

okay i got it fixed the guy who sold it to me has an imac and restored it there and i havent gotten it back yet but mhe told me its working fine. and yes it is first generation its running 2.2 but i didnt know u could jailbreak it so i attempted a downgrade but when i was restoring to the 1.1.1 it got to the part where it says preparing ipod and had an error after which it extracted the software causeing it to be stuck in recovery so thanks for ur help and apparently the best way to fix it is to use the opposite os of ur computer unles the guy used his pc laptop. bt if he used the imac i probably have to reformat but thats probably it. he told me hes been able to access the apps and stuff but hasnt tried putting music on it. i get it back tomoorow thanks for ur help

he told me he updated it back to 2.2. i didnt have the nerve to tell him i tried to jailbreak it i blaimed it on itunes which was the problem because evne when i just wanted to restore ipod just to get the used junk off the ipod because i bought it used. itunes wouldnt let me it kept saying network timed out after i waited 2 hours for the download to come in. so then i tried the downgrade (not knowing 2.2 could be jailbreaked) and use appsnapp from jailbreakme.com but itunes wouldnt restore properly.
