I have an mc model 8GB ipt. It runs 2G firmware. But I am wondering, is it classified as 2G or 3G (in firmware umbrella)?

    It's 2nd Gen. 3rd Gen models don't come in 8gb.

    It's a 3G device.

If you want to get into the actual hardware of the more recent 8GB models however, they are the same thing as their predecessors. So in a way they are really 2G devices. This is why you can jailbreak an 8GB 3G iPod Touch but not a 3G 16GB or 32GB.

    I think you mean 3G 32GB or 64GB

And yea, as TheiPodTouch said, ALL devices can be jailbroken now (untethered btw), with Spirit.
