This is a discussion thread for the "Is Marketing Really the Reason Apple Does So Well?" story posted on the front page.
I think that is a major part of the reason. Apple's marketing team is able to take anything and make it magical. Apple's marketing team could make an ad for a brick that cost $200+ and I would probably want it. They have a way of showing brilliance in all ads.
Yes, plus it's the "Apple" brand. Don't tell me I'm wrong, just yesterday I was talking to a girl and she told me she wanted an iPhone just because she loves the iPhone, and she was getting a Macbook Pro because it's a Macbook Pro. I know she's not the only one, people go for it because it's Apple.
Apple doesn't need to do a lot of marketing. Apple customers fulfill the purpose of marketing better then any commercial could.
