It is perfectly safe, If problems occur, you can use DFU mode to get out of it.
To Jailbreak it, use Redsn0w 0.8.

The Warranty is only void whilst you are jailbroken

    It's so totally not safe!

Apple has a crack team of super cyber ninjas that will hunt you down and do mean nasty things to your family! There is a secret transmitter in all apple devices that let them know if you jailbreak it and they WILL come after you.

I did the jailbreak anyway as I do not like my sister.

Yes, it is perfectly safe. If anything goes wrong at any time, or you wish to un-jailbreak it, just turn it on in DFU mode (hold power button until the apple logo comes up, then hold power + home for 30 seconds, then just the home button for 10), and simply use iTunes to restore it back to before you jailbroke it. Your warranty is only void while it is jailbroken, if anything goes wrong and you need to send it back to Apple (a hardware fault, screen broken etc), simply restore it back to before you jailbroke it and Apple will never know.

    Win. +1.

But in all seriousness, yes it is completely safe.
If you need to take it in to an Apple Store for some reason or another, just restore it and they can't tell.
