i would not say that the update itself is worth it as it (in my opinion) includes features which are not necessary nor extremely important yet at the same time should have been in the first 1.x firmwares since the beginning of the iPhone OS.

However soon enough mostly all applications will not support the old firmware (which you have) because apple makes it awkward to develop and update for new firmwares and developers will be tempted to use many of the new features in the firmware.

This means that within a couple of months application are likely to not to be supported for the firmware.

So in short.. if you want to download new applications in the future you should pay the price to update

I think the update is worth it... Better speeds and more things to use.

I never used a first gen ipod touch. But from what I see from the 1.x firmwares I would of gone with the 3.0 since there alot more to it.

I agree with MiniMacLean with the fact that more and more applications will ONLY support 3.0+ soon. So if you want applications, upgrade. Also, since you are on a second generation, you also get bluetooth, with jailbreaking, there may be more use to this... Out side of that, it's just like Ekodaniel said, it's a lot more snappier and smooth. For these reasons, I say it's BARELY worth the 10 dollars, but if you want apps in the future, copy and paste, and a smoother iPod, and Push, then there's only one way to go.

So to sum it up, it depends on what YOU want and what YOU can and can't live with.

Jailbreaking sounds interesting. What are the advantages of JB?
