I just need to ask if it is safe to use the 3.5mm jack the ipod has for things other than headphones/earphones.

I first used it in my audio receiver/amplifier and it seems i may have damaged the speakers.

Now i use a male to male cable and have hooked it up to my Samsung monitor inoput in order tooutput the sound from the ipod.

My question is, are such procedures safe, or do i risk harming the equipment?

Cause it seems i may have damaged ireversebly my sony speakers as i mentioned, and i dont want to cause any harm to my monitor or te ipod this time.

So can someone please inform me of what the right behavior might be?

nope, youre fine, but id suggest putting the ipod's volume on about 1/3.

use your speakers or amp to adjust the volume.

Why does the output volume matter? IS that the reason i fried my hi-fi's speakers? Because i was playing the volume to loud?

I am doing the same thing with my monitor. Although the monitor doesn't have a volume controller, it always plays at the max of the intensity it's given and at 1/3 sound volume is just not enough.
