My computer broke so I have means of getting more songs. Is it possible to Download songs and get them on my library - possibly without using iTunes store?

Why not? Nobody had signed a document forcing them to buy music at iTunes Store. Anyone could buy music wherever he wants, even at offline CD-shop that has nothing to do with Apple.

But that would require a working computer. And that is something that he doesn't have.

Well, he could use computer at work or his friend's one.
Anyway there's no way to add music without altering music db.

    Eh, true.

So do what he said and go to a friend's computer. Much easier to do than use something like DTunes or MewSeek.

Yeah, mewseek and dtunes aren't legal. The only legal way to do it directly on your ipod is itunes.

    So theres your choices.
