No. Even if you could mod it, the iPod doesn't have drivers to use the port that way... and Apple's taken great pains to make SURE the iPod can't be used as a simple USB drive - it doesn't present itself to the computer that way, so you can't use the USB Mass Storage drivers for it, AND it doesn't have that USB Host functionality required to read a thumb drive.

yes, you can, but what you would really be doing is partitioning its drive so that a certain amount is USB accessable, but the operating system files are all hidden. I think its called iphone sentinel
It allows you to run Virtual PC's and such off of the iphone as well.

In that case, I want you to plug your iPod into a PC which has never had iTunes on it, just to see if it sees more than the area which in 2.x was reserved for screenshots... and which is read-only, last I looked. Show us proof in screenshots.. which can be faked, but at least they're better than your word.

It'd be too much of a hassle , when you can just put the files right on the iPod using Air Share or something.

If you've got the First Gen, jailbreaking it and using Winscp to SSH isn't such a bad idea either. If you don't have Wifi, then there's still iPhone Tunnel Suite for you. Search up on it.
