is it just me or is this normal?

    i just bought the newest 8 gig ipod touch which is 2.5 gen? or 3rd gen?
    anyways it says my ipod's capacity 7.0GB. is this suppose to be like this?

    Well, the capacity is never exact, but that does seem a bit odd to be a full gigabyte off.

    Yes, because 1 GB is used for the system partition, making it inaccessible.

    That is absolutely ridiculous thats why I use SSH to delete some things like the stock apps (weather, mail, voice memos, etc) and some sounds and useless sh*t! Apple robs us of a gig of memory...although my capacity said 7.1 once LOL

    Back in the 1.1.x days, it was 7.6 GB usable or something

    that's because there wasn't so much apps,sounds,features,etc. ...stuff like that

    Manufacturers calculate space by 1000MB per GB as is the new standard, however most people - and Operating Systems, still measure it as 1024MB in a GB. Also, a small part is taken up to map the rest of the usable space
