    Hi,

I'm a beginner in iPod world and this is my first post at here too.

I just ordered refurbished 1st generation iPod touch 8G on Apple website for $178 after I visited my Local Apple store and found out the built-in-speaker of the second gen. was not impressive. I don't care Nike feature as well. I think I will mostly use web browser and enjoy pictures, musics, video. . So, was that a wrong decision? Should I update to latest software version? The representative told me that I can do so for $10.

    Thanks a lot.

If you dont care about speaker, then dont get it. Its the major feature of it, other than the new design (back) Nike, and the volime buttons. Oh yea, the new headphones and the bluetooth chip.

I'd find it worth it to pay an extra 50$ for that tho.

and Yea, the 10$ upgrade is well worth it.

You aren't missing anything exciting. The speaker is horrible and I don't really care for the buttons on the outside. And anyone who runs with an ipod touch is an idiot so forget the Nike+ thing.

    I'm Not Laughing

I bought a 1G iPod Touch refurbished about 1.5 months ago(before the whole fuss about the 2G, if i knew back then i would have waited) and quickly updated to 2.0.1(back then).
For those of you who don't know, refurbished are exactly the same as the new ones, exept they come a in a different box(big deal)

New ones come strait from the assembly line BRAND new, refurbished ones are the ones we all return for warranty concerns they fix them and sell them as "refurbished"

    Thanks!
I'm using and having no problems with refurbished items. I still have 1 year Apple warranty service as they stated.
Yeah, I think the speaker of the 2nd gen. is too small. If it were much better, I had chosen the 2nd. I just came to the store to try the speaker. The rep. told me the wifi speedx are exactly same between both. Just different the speaker, Nike and one thing else I forgot.

Only reason i want to upgrade to the new one is if i cna sell mine for a good price, then i only have to pay $50 or so for a whole new, unscratched, touch. Plus it looks awesome!
