    Hi,

I am looking for a guide to downgrade my iPod Touch. Under preferences it says that my current version is "2.1". However, according to some tutorials this seems to also mean 2.0.1.

What the hell is it and how do I downgrade?

2.0.1 is the previous version while 2.1 is the newest apple came out with when the 2g touch was released on the 9th.

Okay, I am following the tutorial now, however, I don't have the following file as it had been preinstalled on my device:

    C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPod Software Updates) and select it (iPod1,1_2.1_5F137_Restore.ipsw

Should I download the 2.1.1 version and use that file?

2g has external volume controls and a speaker. And they are a hundred bucks cheaper.

You got the external volume control, means your ipod touch can produce sound out without the headset because got speaker.

Means you just recently purchase the ipod touch, means you own the 2nd version of it.

Means you cannot downgrade. (it wont work) and you cannot jailbreak due to different hardware and most likely different hardware lock key.

So the answer is simple: No need to follow the guide cause it wont work.

Also for those who don't know (also called noobs) and people who do know but are usually a PITA if asked specifically...

When you see a version like say 2.0

    2. is the base version the .0 are updates

    or 2.1.1

    2. is base version the .1 is the first update .1 is the latest revision

so, 2.0.1 does not equal 2.1, and 2.1.1 does not equal 2.11 and vice versa.

    ta-da
