So my question is the 8gb iPod touch 3g 8gb considered as a iTouch 2G since the hardware is the same?

Meaning when 4.1 jb comes out will the jailbreak be tethered (if it's a 2G) or not?

    It's a 2g
    Tethered/untethered depends on jailbreak/exploit

yes it is but its classed as mc with a patched bootrom so it doesn't have the 24kpwn exploit bootrom

There is no 3G 8gb ipod touch, it is a 2G MC model, sn0wbreeze and redsn0w claim that it can jailbreak that device but i did not see any owner reporting a success, including me.

You cant jb 4.1 unless you have a newer device ipod touch 4 iphone 4 ipad etc. And yes its the same except for one minor thing..I cant remember.....and the back of the late 2009 model only has 2 lines of writing and a smaller 8gb

    It depends who you ask.

If you are on 3.1.2 (or if you have your blobs), you can use sn0wbreeze.

I'm still on 3.1.2 using blackra1n, I was just wondering If a non-tethered jailbreak came out for it yet or if greenpoison will be able to jailbreak it

You have to restore first of course, so make sure your shsh blobs are backed up, then go on.

The 8GB 3G is considered a 2G because of all of it's insides are identical... Except for the bootrom. Therefore, we name it different (MC). I consider it a 3G since it doesn't hold the same bootrom. It currently has no hardware exploit. May never will.
