I have a usb car-adapter and the output is 5v/ 850mah. Just wondering if it's safe for my new 3G Ipod touch?

Thanks a ton- I've searched all over but can't find it. I think some that are sold are 5v/1amp which leads me to believe that mine would be safe. I actually plugged it in this morning on the way to work and it didn't smoke or anything, and the battery stayed full for the 1 hour car ride, but I just want to make sure before I risk my new little baby!

I think it's safe. As long as it doesn't exceed 5V it should be fine.

I remember someone asking this for the PSP last year. I think it's the same with any USB-powered peripheral. My PSP 2000 has a power brick of 2000 mA and it charges from 0 to 100% twice as fast (~2 h) as opposed to my PC's USB.

PS: I wonder what would an AppleCare employee say if you ask him that... lol

That'll be a laugh. He'll probably put you on hold while he/she googles it (if you're on the phone with this person, of course).

Or tell you it's not safe and tell you to get an apple one.
