I looked at a youtube video online on how to jailbreak iPod touch 2g 3.1.2 firmware and it said you lose the jailbreak when you turn it off.

Is this true? I wanted to use blackra1n because everyone says it's ridiculously easy.

No that's not true, you won't lose anything. The jailbreak for 2G is untethered, so you can turn it on and off all you want. BUT for iPod touch 3G, it is tethered. So if you turn it off, you will need to run blackra1n again to boot it, but you will not lose anything. (This last part isn't really important to you because you have a 2G, but it's still good to know

    Is it an 8GB?
If so it might be the newer 3G model, which is tethered.

Well IF he turns it off, he will need to run blackra1n from his computer to turn it back on. Otherwise, he's stuck without an iPod for the day.

Well, if it's tethered, it's obviously not a 2nd gen.. it's a 3rd gen. And there's not much you can do, just live with it.
