I was just wondering about this because so many people have pass locks and my friends have pass locks on their iPods for some reason? Is it really that important? What if i forget the code? What do i do?

    Restore if you forget

Its there to protect your privacy, would you want every tom dick and harry to have access to everything on the device?

You dont need to restore if you forget you pass, just connect you ipod to your computer and itunes will remove the lock but only if that computer is the one you set up your ipod from.

If you have private info on your iPod (email, contacts, etc) You might not want someone who finds your iPod to go through it and potentially steal your identity. It's a good idea to keep that locked out.

    ^ above

also makes it easier for a person to steal your ipod
most people dont know how to remove a password off an ipod through the raw file system
