I was wondering whether a 9880gt would be able to run most of the latest games...like GTA IV, Mirror's Edge, Resident Evil 5(when its out), etc. at playable frames.

I have the 9800GT along with a Duo Core 2 E7300 processor and 4GB of RAM and I can play almost every single one of the latest games on all high with no problems.

Yeah it should be, but make the stretch to the 4770 or 4850.

the card isn't as big an issue as the amount of memory it has. 512MB is not enough to play something like Crysis on high but it'll play just about anything else. I have a 9800 GTX+

People have a tendency to think that the high end cards can only play the games now a days. But really, the decent consumer level $100 - $200 cards can play games just fine. Who needs the very best quality anyways when you're shooting away.
