I am contemplating updating my IPT from 2.1 FW to 2.2. Are there any actual benefits from doing so? Does 2.2 have anything special? I have seen some problems on here about updating to 2.2, so I didn't know if it was worth the risk to get it.

So obviously there is really no advantage to having 2.2 then?

You can take screenshots of the lockscreen, Safari is a bit more stable, you can download podcasts and Maps have Street View. I wouldn't upgrade either but I wanted to unlock my iPhone, so...

What's the issue with upgrading to 2.2?

Anyways, here are some nice features:

-Ability to take pictures of Lock Screen
-Safari is faster and more stable
-Added Google search bar next to Address Bar in Safari
    -Better battery life (it seems)
-Wi-Fi issues fixed (iPod Touch 2G)
-Downloadable Podcasts (Instead of syncing with iTunes)
    -Bug fixes (As usual)

I think it's worth the update, but I'm using a 2G, and do not jailbreak (obviously), so I don't really know if it's worth it if you have a lot of things installed onto the iPod.

it also seems like downloads from the app store are a lot quicker, which is great. And backing up is even faster than 2.1. For my purposes, it's great (i don't see what's wrong with it)

I upgraded to 2.2 only to make SIP-VoIP calls with my Macally iVoiceiii. I like that the Google search bar is next to the address bar in Safari, and the new Map has a public transportation search feature (which is important to someone like me with no ride). Mainly, making free WiFi calls pushed me to upgrade to 2.2.

    Hi,

2.2 just made me sick :-(

Only brought problems, like wifi not working and restoring troubles.
The only good thing about 2.2 is that the appstore apps you update stay at the same place they were before.

I would do it, just to run a more stable and up-to-date version of the firmware. If you suspect there will be a new firmware release soon, then perhaps you should wait a bit longer.
I am wondering: do you have to update to each version, or can you skip versions? I.e., can you go from 2.1 to 2.3?
