what is ipsw? im new with ipod touches idk what that is
The file extension of iPod and iPhone firmware. IPSW is short for iPhoneSoftware or iPodSoftware.
the firmware file to is to update/restore your ipod, it would be about equal to an actual OS install disc that u would get with a computer/service pack upgrades in the desktop computer world.
its the extension for the frimware
so just like .doc is the extension for a office document .ipsw is the extension for the apple firmware
Why would you comment again?
It is Apple being retarded by changing the file extension on a zip file to something else.
It is just a zip file.
It's to confuse the not-as-tech-savvy people so they don't screw themselves up by unzipping it then saying OMG mah ayepod willn't re-store!
Basically an ipsw file is a packaged file containing the iPod/iPhone firmware.
The firmware may be thought of as the Operating System files.
Just like when you install Windows or something you copy files from a CD,
iTunes copies file from the firmware to the iPod.
Every time you restore your iPod or put on a firmware update you must have a ipsw.
Hope that clears some things up...
