Ok so before you all say DFU+restore fixes everything IT DOESN'T.

My problem is that im on 3.0 and i want to go down to 2.2.1, but here are all the combos ive tried:

Jailbroken 3.0 to 3.0 no jailbreak = worked
    no jailbreak 3.0 to 2.2.1 = failed error 21
restore mode no jailbreak 3.0 to 2.2.1 = failed error 20
DFU mode no jailbreak 3.0 to 2.2.1 = failed error 1600
DFU mode no jailbreak 3.0 to 2.0 = failed error 1600

i have tried the irecovery method and many other methods and nothing works

I believe it has to do with the iTunes version for restoring. Why do you want to go to pre-3.0?

To go pre-3.0, you need to apply the tethered jailbreak 'pre-jailbreak' patch.
Basically, follow a tethered jailbreak tutorial, but stop once you get to the white screen. At the white screen, restore to 2.2.1 in iTunes.

ok first gen is no problem... get redsnow for windows or mac w.e u have and make sure u get the 3.0 for ur 1st gen. THEN just shiftclick(press shift and click) the restore button and choose the 3.0 firmware u downloaded... then after thats all set time to jailbreak. Open redsnow it will ask u to find the firmware currently on ur ipod and choose the same 3.0 firmware u downloaded... the rest is prettyup and foward... it tells you how to put ur device in dfu if u have any problems with that...good luck tell me how it goes

i didnt really get that i cant go down to 2.2.1 through itunes even in DFU. So i go to a clean install of 3.0 run the redsnow to the point where it shows me how to go into DFU mode, then what? close redsnow and restore in itunes or unplug my ipod, plug back in and restore?
