I myself have never messed with older iPod models except the Nanos...
So yeah, my dad got a 30gb iPod Video for $20. I plugged it into our wall charger and it shows the white screen saying to restore it black text. So then I plug it into my laptop, but I get the monochrome battery, I let it set there for about an hour trying to charge but I don't think it charged.

Is the battery not holding a charge?

Now you know why he got it for $20.

Looks like that battery is worn.

Well, idk if it's the battery, but if it is my dad said he has some other iPods he accidentally broke (with the battery). If it's not the battery then I might let it set on the charger for a little while longer...
    Derp.

Yeah, try doing a battery swap.

Otherwise, that was a pretty good deal.

Blah, I plug it into the wall and like I said it comes on then says to restore it...
I got it into Disk Mode... But that won't help unless I could get it into disk mode on the pc...

    Crap,
I forgot to order the battery...
Blah, gotta order it when I get more money...
The cheapest battery I found was on eBay for $1, but the shipping is $10, then I found one for $5 and the shipping is $6...
Can anyone find one for $1-8 w/ free shipping?

Sorry for bumping this, but I bought a new battery and everything.
Put it in and it tells me to restore it!

So, I go to find one of my iPod cables, but I can't find any. (I had 2 or 3 of em)
so, I ask my sister cuz I let her use one of them, she has no idea where any of them are.
She was the only person with an iPod at the time though, so I'm assuming she lost all of em.
-_- Now I have no way of restoring this, and the cheapest iPod Cable they sell at walmart is $18...
