Maybe there are two or three other threads on this subject, they are quite dated, so I thought I might revisit the subject and ask a few questions of my own. I know al about using the touch screen as a remote track pad, I've used VNSea and Touchpad. What I would think to be more efficient is to have just two mouse buttons on screen (maybe a gap in between for scrolling?), and use the accelerometer to read thrusts in movement of the iPod to control the mouse. Yes I know what many will think, 'Are you saying sliding the iPod on a hard surface!? It'll scratch the back!'. Who cares, its cosmetic.

Has this been thought about already? Or have I delved into the midst of a period of greater thinking and created something new? How hard could it be?

Airmouse on Appstore. But it uses tilts to move, like an airmouse.

you could use a mousepad but it would be kind of hard to control if you just slid it and to tilt it you would have to pick it up and click and scroll which would be horrible. and try playing an fps with it lol.

i like the idea of it being a legit mouse ahah that would be pretty interesting, but over like wifi or something may be a little laggy

this is not possible the ipod touch acceleromiter only detects:
when the ipod it tilted like a drinking glass, swung down like a drumstick (with the back facing the ground), when it is tilted forward, bacward, or side to side while facing flat, or when it is dropped. it will not detect movement such as a mouse would.

so this would simply be impossible.

i thought of the cocept myself but, i knew it was impossible
it would be neat app to have (if you had a case), which i do.

    nice suggestion though
