WiFi is a must, for sure... And you can set up the Mail app to one of your favorite Gmail, Yahoo, mobileMe, or AOL accounts...

YOU NEED WIFI TO USE THIS FEATURE

    Yes, You can

You'll have to set up your email using the "Mail" application. Open the application up and click on whatever name your email falls under. EX: If you have an Aol email address, Simply click on AOL.

When you have your email account set up, Your able to edit the timing of when it updates. Set the timing to whatever you want, And your iPod will search if you have a new email depending on whatever setting you put. Then, Hopefully you'll be getting mail in your inbox.
Simply tap on the "new message" button at the bottom of your screen while in the "Mail" application. And start typing. Or you can just reply to a message. Its pretty obvious and user friendly once your using it.
